Course Description

What is ritual? In this eight-lecture course, Dr. Connor Wood explores the “basic human social act” using cutting-edge cognitive science, evolutionary anthropology, religious studies, and the philosophy of language. Students will come away understanding why so many seemingly impractical activities — wedding ceremonies, presidential inaugurations, religious worship — are so important for being human.
